UnitedHealth (UNH) lent roughly $9B to practices affected by a major cyberattack on its payment systems last year, but medical practices are now suing the health care company, saying it is pressuring them to repay funds, The New York Times’ Benjamin Ryan reports. Odom Health & Wellness, a sports medicine and rehabilitation company, and the Dillman Clinic & Lab, a family medicine practice, are suing United in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, accusing the corporation of negligence related to the cyberattack and claiming they sustained excessive expenses because of the attack’s fallout, and are asserting that UnitedHealthcare has been denying claims to cover patient care for being submitted late.
