The 2025 Cannes Film Festival is well underway, and the fashion — as is to be expected — has been top-tier. The renowned festival, which kicked off on May 13 and will conclude on May 24, has a reputation for being one of the glitziest and most glamorous in the world.

Boasting a star-studded lineup that includes Natalie Portman, Bella Hadid, Nicole Kidman and Pedro Pascal, Cannes has already set the stage for some of the year’s most memorable style moments. From the minute they touch down at the Nice airport, celebrities are ready for their close-ups. From Pascal’s chicly understated Bottega Veneta ensemble to Portman’s showstopping display of archival Dior, a slew of celebrities have already stepped out in their finest of fashions.

Below, take a look at some of our favorite Cannes style moments — from the carpet and beyond.

Figure-hugging silhouettes

Slinky silhouettes have emerged as a favorite in France. Materialists star Dakota Johnson stepped out in a custom Gucci gown made of strass crystals and beads. The gown, which also featured a halter neckline, column skirt and open back, allowed for subtle glimpses of her body beneath the garment.

Taking a similar approach was Halle Berry, who also wore a crystal-encrusted, halter Gucci gown. Eva Longoria was pretty in pink in a corseted, dusty rose gown by Tamara Ralph.

Kidman opted for a red lace Balenciaga gown with a high neckline, while Stella Maxwell stepped out in a long-sleeve black lace dress by Cheney Chan that featured a mermaid-inspired silhouette and feathered embellishments.

From the archives

When it comes to dressing up for Cannes, A-listers often take inspiration from vintage designer gowns. Natalie Portman, for instance, wore a re-creation of a Dior Fall 1951 haute couture gown that featured a black velvet bow, while Ariana Greenblatt stepped out in an archival Chanel look from the fashion house’s Spring 1993 collection, which was previously worn by model Claudia Schiffer.

Amal Clooney made a statement in an archival John Galliano-era Christian Dior frock, while Zoey Deutch brought ’50s glamour to the South of France in a re-creation of a Chanel Spring 1956 haute couture dress.

Bella Hadid, who’s been known to sport archival designs, wore what’s been described as a “piece of Cannes history” out in London this week: Milla Jovovich’s chain mail wrap dress by John Galliano.

Fringe and floral appliqué

Fringe and floral appliqué have proven to be celebrity-approved embellishments at the film festival, appearing at photo-calls and red carpet premieres. Die, My Love star Jennifer Lawrence opted for a dreamy, semi-sheer dress with delicately embroidered floral appliqué along the skirt from Dior’s Pre-Fall 2025 collection.

Eddington actress Emma Stone opted for a silver ruffled Louis Vuitton gown with metallic floral appliqué from the fashion house’s Fall 2025 collection.

Continuing her streak of stellar Cannes dressing was Dakota Johnson, who attended the Highest 2 Lowest premiere in a fringed, light pink Gucci gown. Also wearing fringed garments were Julia Garner, who stepped out in a lilac Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford frock, and Halle Berry, who wore a head-to-toe Alexandre Vauthier look.

A drop waist moment

Opting for an elegant yet relaxed silhouette was Charli xcx, whose lilac gown marked a departure from her signature all-black style. Fresh off the release of her “party 4 u” music video, the British pop singer wore a custom Saint Laurent design that featured a mix of opaque and semi-sheer fabrics that gave the illusion of a drop waist.

Also leaning into the drop waist trend was Daisy Edgar-Jones, who attended the 2025 Kering Women in Motion Awards in a Gucci dress with a maroon monogrammed bodice and a low-slung black sequinned skirt.

Actress Pom Klementieff wore a ruched lilac gown from Loewe, while model Rawdah Mohamed stunned in a sculptural pale pink dress by Rizman Ruzaini. Cannes’s “it” girl Bella Hadid had an Audrey Hepburn moment in a softly corseted Jacquemus dress.

Off-duty ensembles

Casual was still equally as cool at the Cannes Film Festival. To celebrate her directorial debut, Kristen Stewart kept things laid-back in a custom Chanel short suit and matching baseball cap.

Also showing off his off-duty-inspired style was Pascal, whose head-to-toe Bottega Veneta look has been lauded by fans online. Hadid, with her beachy, all-white Saint Laurent look and Charli, with her Vivienne Westwood corset top and micro-mini shorts, also embraced casual dressing in Cannes.

Heidi Klum, meanwhile, put a retro spin on airport dressing when she touched down in Nice in a pair of flared overalls and a camo-and-croc Birkin bag.
