Boom! Ohio State basketball gets commitment from European shooting guard

Boom! For a second day in a row, Ohio State basketball received another commitment for the upcoming year. This time, the Buckeyes went to Europe and snagged shooting guard Mathieu Grujicic from Germany.

Just 17 years old, Grujicic played professionally for Barca 2, where he averaged nearly 13 points per game while adding 4.9 rebounds and two assists per game. He shot a healthy 34 percent from beyond the arc, giving the Buckeyes a much-needed shooting threat from deep. Of course, it will remain to be seen how much impact the youngster can have in year one, but having the professional experience under his belt may give him a bit of an advantage.

Grujicic is the second European player to join Ohio State under head coach Jake Diebler’s watch. He joins Croatian center Ivan Njegovan, who will be entering his sophomore year in Scarlet and Gray.

Diebler is trying to build the type of roster he needs to run his system. Grujicic fits the bill, coming from a fast-paced system that looks to spread the floor. Fans are hoping to see a much-improved product in year two under Diebler’s command.
