Highlands Latin girls, Collegiate boys win titles at Class A, Region 3 track & field meet


The Highlands Latin girls and Collegiate boys track and field teams won titles Tuesday during the Class A, Region Three meet at Ballard High School.

Highlands Latin’s girls scored 146 points and were followed by Kentucky Country Day (92.5) and Walden (77).

Highlands Latin won the 800-meter relay and got individual victories from Mollie Robson (1,600), Ulla Dodd (300 hurdles), Molly-Louise Denley (high jump) and Logan Boyd (discus, shot put).

KCD junior Ellie Beam had a big day by sweeping the 100, 200 and 400 and anchoring her team’s victory in the 400 relay. Walden junior Natalie Svidal won the 100 hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Collegiate’s boys took the team title with 103 points and were followed by KCD (88) and Highlands Latin (80).

Collegiate won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays and got individual wins from Henry Hasselbacher (400), Roman Sierpina (800, 1,600) and Julien Veliquette (110 and 300 hurdles).

Portland Christian junior Finn Popp swept the discus and shot put.

The top two finishers in each event earned automatic spots in the Class A State Track and Field Championships set for May 29 at the University of Kentucky. Others may earn spots based on their performances versus others from around the state.
