The New York Giants are hosting their rookie minicamp this weekend, and their newly acquired draft picks were hard at work on Day 1.
Michael Strahan came to talk with the rookies about the Giants’ history and what it means to wear the uniform. Players met with coaches and met some of their new teammates for the first time. Drills were run that helped show the new guys what things are like in the NFL.
It was a day packed with information and excitement, and afterward, a few of the players spoke with the media.
One of those players was running back Cam Skattebo.
Skattebo was on the Giants’ radar leading up to the draft; they thought he was someone who could complement their running backs room. They wanted him enough that when they thought they had to choose between Sakttebo and Marcus Mbow, they took Skattebo first.
His tenacity, physicality, and athletic ability bring a new dynamic to the running backs room.
When Skattebo was asked how he keeps a chip on his shoulder after everything he’s accomplished, his response was pure perfection.
“How many snaps of the NFL have you seen me play?” he asked. “Zero, right? I’ve proved nothing. I’ve proved what I am in college, but I’ve proved nothing at this level. So now, where I’m at, I have to prove myself, and if that’s for five years or if that’s for 10 years, I’m going to continue to prove myself. I’m the best, do it for the longest, so continue to do that and just work my butt off until time comes.”
In his senior season at Arizona State, Skattebo had 295 carries for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns.
After losing Saquon Barkley in 2024, the Giants had to rebuild their run game. Tyrone Tracy was a great start, and Skattebo adds depth to the position. Devin Singletary and Eric Gray round out the running backs room, and right now, Skattebo sits as RB3, ahead of Gray and behind Singletary.
It probably won’t stay like that for long, though, as Skattebo gets more comfortable with the NFL game, he will see more time on the field this fall. Especially if he continues to play like he has something to prove.
