Could Jarquez Hunter hear his name called on day two of the NFL draft?
For the fifth year in a row, Auburn failed to produce a first-round pick in the NFL draft.
The NFL draft continues this weekend, where it is certain that several Tigers will hear their name called and will begin the next step in their football-playing careers. Who could be the first Auburn Tiger taken in this year’s draft? All signs point to Jarquez Hunter.
Hunter is among the top 100 best available NFL draft prospects according to Pro Football Focus, who places him at the final slot, No. 100, in their rankings released Friday.
Hunter served as the premier back in Auburn’s offense over the last two seasons, where he racked up 2,110 yards and 15 touchdowns in the role. His college stats were fine, but at 5-10, 200 pounds, PFF scouts feel his size hinders his draft stock.
Hunter is small, but he doesn’t let that hinder his physicality. He is a high-intelligence player with good eyes and anticipation in all phases of the game. His ceiling is limited due to a lack of size and length, but he’s a player every NFL coach would love to have on their roster or practice squad.
Even though Hunter makes the list of best available prospects, PFF believes he will miss out on being selected on day two of the NFL draft. As Auburn’s top draft option, Hunter will likely join fellow Tigers KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Eugene Asante as a day-three selection on Saturday.
The 2025 NFL draft continues Friday at 6 CT with rounds No. 2 and No. 3, and will conclude Saturday with rounds No. 4 through No. 7 beginning at 11 am CT.
