Palestinian sources report at least 60 dead in latest Israeli attacks

Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 60 people since early Saturday morning, Palestinian medical sources said.

Dozens more have been injured, the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry said. The Israeli army initially provided no information, and the figures could not be independently verified.

According to the reports, the death toll is rising by the hour as the Israeli military continues to attack various locations in the sealed-off territory.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA previously reported deaths in the areas around Khan Younis and Rafah in the south of the embattled strip, as well as in Gaza City further north. There was no initial comment from the Israeli military.

Israel has been fighting the Palestinian Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip since the militia led its unprecedented attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Three weeks ago, Israel launched a major new offensive in the coastal strip. Its stated goal is to completely destroy Hamas and free the hostages still being held by the extremists. Israel’s actions have been met with international criticism, including from close allies.
