World Series Game 1: Diamondbacks leading Rangers early; score, highlights, news and live tracker

The Fall Classic comes around every year, but no one saw this World Series matchup coming. That’s part of the beauty of the game.

In Friday’s Game 1, it’s the Texas Rangers, who pushed all their chips into the middle and spent big on free agents, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who pushed through a small payroll and a late-season slump to produce gutsy play and vibes that outmatched the Philadelphia Phillies.

After the Diamondbacks went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, the Rangers struck in the bottom of the inning, plating two on a walk, a double and an Adolis García single.

In the third inning, rookie sensation Corbin Carroll tied it up with a one-out, two-RBI triple and then scored to give his team the lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Rangers tied it again by going walk, double, walk, walk — all with two outs — to bring in a run.

Tommy Pham got the run and the lead right back with a solo homer to lead off the fourth for Arizona. One inning later, the D-backs tacked on another.
